It’s that time of year again where the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Santa Ana District Office reaches out to the small business community to seek nominations for the 2014 Small Business Week awards. We’re looking for you to nominate exceptional small business owners and champions. They might be your banker, your baker, or the business up the street…it might even be you! We look forward to recognizing the best and brightest in our community and we need your help to do so.

AWARD CATEGORIES
 
SMALL BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR: A business owner who has developed an outstanding, growing business and has overcome adversity, designed innovative product(s), created jobs, increased sales and profits and contributed to the community.
EXPORTER OF THE YEAR:  A business owner who has significantly increased export sales and has encouraged other firms to export, increased employment through exports, and used innovative methods to create markets abroad.
YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR: Nominee will not reach a 30th birthday by June 1, 2013; he/she owns a majority interest in a small business with a successful business track record for at least three years, and the business demonstrates growth potential.
FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESS OF THE YEAR:  Family owned and operated business which has been passed on from one generation to another.  Nominees must also serve as a majority owner and operator or bear principal responsibility for operating the small business with at least 15 year-track record.
8(a) GRADUATE OF THE YEAR:  All formerly certified 8(a) business participants that were graduated from the 8(a) program for at least a year as of April 1, 2013.  The firm does not have to currently be a small business.
SMALL BUSINESS CHAMPION AWARDS:  Champions are Advocates persons who use their professional expertise and talents in activities that promote small business.  These pursuits include volunteering their time and services to small business interests, participating in small business groups and advocating the cause of small business in the legislative process.
              HOME-BASED BUSINESS CHAMPION OF THE YEAR: Nominees must have owned or currently own a home-based business and have volunteered to improve the climate for these businesses to start and grow.
              FINANCIAL SERVICES CHAMPION OF THE YEAR: Candidates will have assisted small businesses by increasing the usefulness and availability of accounting, financial services and access to capital.
              MINORITY SMALL BUSINESS CHAMPION OF THE YEAR: Nominees must have worked to improve conditions in the minority business community and demonstrate a positive impact resulting from their contributions.
              VETERAN SMALL BUSINESS CHAMPION OF THE YEAR:  Nominees must have worked to increase business opportunities for veterans to own and prosper in small businesses.
              WOMEN IN BUSINESS CHAMPION OF THE YEAR:  Candidates must have worked to improve financial and business opportunities for women busines owners as a group.
 
Note: The U.S. SBA is launching an on-line portal for submitting your applications for categories marked with (*) which will compete at the national level.
