Criminal Justice Leadership Series: Surviving an Officer Involved Shooting The Criminal Justice Leadership Series offers inspiring speakers from the field of law enforcement, courts and corrections and is designed to engage, inform and enlighten attendees. Please join us as we kick-off our series with the local Sheriffs' Department Lieutenant, David Kurylowicz, who will share his personal account of surviving a deadly shooting encounter while in the line of duty. For more information contact torye.nguyen@phoenix.edu Speaker Bio: CJ Leadership Series David Kurylowicz graduated from Moreno Valley High School and immediately attended Riverside Community College. He earned his Associate Degree in Administration of Justice and at 19 years old, joined the Riverside County Sheriff's Department as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff. He was later promoted to the rank of Reserve Sergeant. Soon after, David became a Correctional deputy and worked at several correctional facilities within the county. He followed his desire to attend the sworn academy and became a Deputy Sheriff. Upon graduation he began his patrol career at the Hemet Station where he also worked as a Hostage/Crisis Negotiator. Since then, David followed his desire to earn his degree and graduated from southern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and later from Trident University with an MBA with a concentration in Criminal Justice Administration. David has been with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department for 20 years and currently holds the rank of Sheriff's Lieutenant. He has many areas of specialized training and experience and recently graduated from Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute. He serves as a department instructor Subject Matter Expert, and special topics lecturer at the regional law enforcement training center.
